On Saturday, Nov. 23, Stafford County deputies responded to Symphony of Suds on Smokehouse Drive around 8:18 p.m. after staff reported two suspects breaking into a self-service machine to steal money.
Surveillance footage tipped off employees, and deputies quickly tracked the pair down behind the Goodwill on Warrenton Road.
According to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office, the suspects, identified as 19-year-old Dakota Hilliard of Stafford and a 17-year-old juvenile, were detained without incident.
Deputies found Hilliard with a lock-picking set and the grand haul of the heist, which didn't even amount to three dollars.
Hilliard reportedly admitted to the crime, telling deputies he didn’t expect to “get much.”
Hilliard was charged with:
- Larceny;
- Attempted destruction of property;
- Contributing to the delinquency of a minor;
- Possession of burglary tools.
He is being held at Rappahannock Regional Jail on a $3,000 secured bond.
The juvenile received criminal complaints for larceny and attempted destruction of property and was released to a family member.
